Thanks for the link. It is about binary formats. The following is a link to the xml specs, which is the default save format in office 2007: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/office/aa905545.aspx

and one for the open office: http://opendocument.xml.org/

but sometimes I wonder how long will it take google to take over the "office" applications market: docs.google.com
