Thanks for everyone's suggestions. One person thought it might a permissions problem but the SQL guys are out until Tuesday. That seems likely since I asked only for read/write permissions not realizing that a separate permission is needed to insert into a table. At least I hope it's that simple. However I like what others have said. I know very little about connecting to SQL server and the different syntax options are enlightening. Thanks again.
