Hi Nat and Dan

Thanks for your responses. I know Proc means could do it easily as Dan shows in the example. But I want to do it within data step becasue I want combine with the other variables I derived within the data step set. But, yeah it seems it requires few lines to do it in the Data step as Nat shown. I think I have to live with it. Thank you a punch! sky
