Subject: Canvasbacks at Lake Horton
Yesterday (11/15), Kathy Miller, Mark McShane and I met up for a great
morning of birding with the Ocmulgee Audubon Society at Rum Creek/Lake
Juliet - and afterwards went to Lake Horton for more! We weren't
disappointed that we made this side trip as we located two Canvasbacks - a
male and a female. They were incredibly beautiful when the sun would shine
on them. WOW! A very nice treat for all of us. Other highlights at Lake
Horton yesterday:
Ruddy Duck
Bufflehead
Great Egret
Bald Eagle
Cooper's Hawk
Killdeer
Peeps - probably Semipalmated Sandpiper and Least Sandpiper
Golden-crowned Kinglet
I hope the Ocmulgee group will post their report. The day was windy but,
even so, I had a final count of 56 birds from Rum Creek/Lake Juliet. With
Lake Horton and birds on the way, we had over 70 species for the day.
