according to my understanding
the SAS-L list admin changed the settings several years ago
to require posters be subscribed to the list.
So: spammers are subscribing
and then posting
<sigh>
Like most other things in life,
-- airport security comes to mind --
we have to settle for 'safer'
while yet still aspiring to be 'safe'.
