Subject: Lake Varner and Briscoe Reservoir 2/16/09
Hi All,
I stopped by Lake Varner and Briscoe Reservoir at lunchtime today. At
Lake Varner I was able to locate some of the diving ducks that Bob Cheek
and I were looking for in west central Georgia yesterday!
Lake Varner
-----------
Officially known on the sign as Lake Varner - Newton County Water System -
Cornish Creek Water Treatment Facility. The water treatment facility is
below the dam. There were hundreds of birds on the reservoir today,
mostly Lots of Lesser Scaup and Ruddy Ducks. Also seen:
Canada Goose
CANVASBACK, 4 males
REDHEAD, 1 male with the Canvasbacks
Bufflehead
Pied-billed Grebe
Ring-billed Gull
All of these birds were in the area of the south end of the lake. There
were also good-sized groups of birds on the water at the far north end but
too far away, looked like mostly scaup and maybe coots.
