Subject: Storms and Sandhills

GA birders,

I hope all of you and your families and properties are fine after last night's storms.

All of the reports of Sandhill Cranes yesterday had me thinking. Were there larger numbers of Sandhill Cranes flying north yesterday ahead of the storms? Or, were there more seen because they were flying at lower altitudes (as I've read birds often due when severe weather approaches)? Is there any connection? I am reminded of the following post by Eran Tomer (http://www.listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0502&L=gabo-l&P=R11048) that was nominated for "best post." I know that crane migration is greatly affected by weather, but I wondered if there are accounts of large numbers of crane sightings being a harbinger of severe storms. I'd be appreciative of any recommended reading.

Thanks, James Neves Athens, GA
