Hi Michael,
I have experienced the exact difficulty with the same task (same OS
too), but using ver. 17.0; eventually, because of time constraints I had
to use a different approach to resolve the read-in problem.
Would like to know if anyone else experienced this issue.
Mike

Subject: problem with Data Import Wizard and fixed width
Hello listers,
I'm running SPSS 17.0.1 under Windows XP Home and I tried to import
an ASCII file using the data import wizard (file/open/data).
I have got string and numeric data in each case. In step 2 I use
fixed width, in step 3 'the first case...' is number 7, step 4
remains unchanged, but after hitting on the next buttom the program
doesn't go further, the program stops. It doesn't terminate but it
stops. I'm able to go back to step 3.
The same happens in our university laboratory with a UNIX server and
20 Windows xp PCs connected to that server.
But if I use SPSS 16.0.1 with the same data all works fine.
I would be glad about any hints.
Michael
