Subject: Cochran Shoals Report, 9-1-09
I lucked out and got an unexpected free morning today. . . so, naturally I spent it looking for
birds. I started at Henderson Park, where I ran into Hugh Garrett. We found the property eerily
silent. . . so after a bit, I decided to change locales (I'm sure Hugh bagged double digit warblers
soon after I left ;)
I decided to check Cochran Shoals (Chattahoochee NRA) to see if yesterday's good warbler activity
continued. It was a tough morning for observation - windy, drizzly, and dark. . . And I know
several warblers got away from me. Nonetheless, I managed to find a few (7 warbler species).
10:15am-11:30pm
Highlights:
Chestnut-sided warbler, 2
Pine warbler, 3
Black and white warbler, 4
American redstart, 2
Common yellowthroat, 3
Canada warbler, 1 (along the Philly Vireo trail, same as yesterday)
Hooded warbler, 3
Scarlet tanager, 1
The birds were there, I just didn't have much time. I'm confident a more intensive effort would
have produced better results.
