Subject: Boat Ramp Rd and West Point Dam - 9/29
Content-type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

I was out of the state for most of last week, so I was anxious to get back out birding again today, even if though it was after work! I hit Boat Ramp Rd around 8:45 this morning and spent a few hours. Nothing really rare, but there was alot of good birds and a LOT of activity. Highlights include 17 species of warbler dominated by redstarts (including Nashville, Golden-winged, Blue-winged, and Cerulean), Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, 3 Philadelphia Vireos, and a host of other migrants that made for a very nice morning...

Warblers -

Blue-winged Warbler - 2 Golden-winged Warbler - 1 Tennessee Warbler - 7 Nashville Warbler - 1 Northern Parula - 5 Chestnut-sided Warbler - 4 Magnolia Warbler - 5 Black-throated Green Warbler - 2 Blackburnian Warbler - 2 Pine Warbler - 3 Cerulean Warbler - 1 Black-and-white Warbler - 1 American Redstart - 21 Northern Waterthrush - 1 Common Yellowthroat - 3 Hooded Warbler - 1 Yellow-breasted Chat - 1

also noted...

Bald Eagle - 1 (1st yr) Yellow-billed Cuckoo - 8 Red-headed Woodpecker - 12+ Eastern Wood-Pewee - 7 Yellow-bellied Flycatcher - 1 Acadian Flycatcher - 7 Great Crested Flycatcher - 1 White-eyed Vireo - 12 Yellow-throated Vireo - 8 Philadelphia Vireo - 3 fots Red-eyed Vireo - 2 Gray-cheeked Thrush - 2 Swainson's Thrush - 4 Gray Catbird - 3 Summer Tanager - 2 Scarlet Tanager - 6 Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 2 Indigo Bunting - 6 Baltimore Oriole - 1

I then headed up to West Point Dam and stayed for about 45 minutes. The best bird was a 1st winter FRANKLIN'S GULL out in the middle of the lake straight out from the dam. Unfortunately I took my eyes off of it for a few seconds and it was gone, but of course it may still be around. This is the earliest I've had this species at WPD by about a month.

also seen...

Blue-winged Teal - 40 Northern Shoveler - 1 Ring-billed Gull - 4 Forster's Tern - 2
