2010 Graduate School Outstanding Mentoring Award

The Graduate School Outstanding Mentoring Award recognizes excellence in a variety of mentoring functions. This award recognizes faculty members for innovation and effectiveness in mentoring graduate students during their educational experience. The Graduate School encourages all students to consider nominating faculty members in professional/applied sciences or social/behavioral sciences who have been strong mentors.

In 2010, two awards will be given, one in Professional/Applied Sciences and one in Social/Behavioral Sciences (awards given even years). Awards in Humanities/Fine and Applied Arts and Life/Physical Sciences are given in odd years. Each award will be for $500.

Nominees must be current members of the Graduate Faculty at the University of Georgia. Only individuals who have not previously received the award are eligible. Recipients will be selected by a faculty committee appointed by the Dean of the Graduate School.

The following criteria are intended as general guidelines for nominating faculty members: - Excellent research guidance - Positive impact on students individually and as a group - Assistance in career decision-making and advancement

Nominations may *only be made by graduate students* and all nomination materials must be prepared by the graduate students. If more than one student wishes to nominate the same faculty member, you may prepare one nomination form and letter together.

To nominate a faculty member for the award, download the nomination form from the Graduate School website, http://www.grad.uga.edu/mentor.pdf.

Nomination deadline: Friday, October 16, 2009, 5:00 pm
