Position Summary:
Exploring the impact of critical illness on long-term health outcomes,
this position
will work as part of a dynamic team of health services, epidemiologic
and social science
researchers. This core duties of this position are to design and
construct analytic
datasets from complex existing administrative and survey datasets to
support advanced
statistical analysis. The position will work closely with a small
group of experienced
faculty members, and require both independence and team collaboration
over diverse
projects.
Duties:
Design and construct statistical datasets combining information from
multiple sources:
* Medicare claims and other administrative records
* Complex social surveys
* Health records in the health system's data warehouse
This will include:
* Contribute intellectually to the development of research plans as
part of a team
* Reshaping and combining large data files to support multiple
analytic approaches (50%)
* Organize and maintain analytic datasets and file systems for several
projects (20%)
* Conducting validity checks on data
* Carrying out statistical analysis in consultation with faculty (20%)
* Presenting research findings and assist in the preparation of
manuscripts and grants
(10%)
* Independently acting as a resource and problem-solver as needed
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
* Master's Degree in public health, biostatistics, sociology,
economics, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
* Experience with health services research design and data analysis,
including use of
administrative data.
* Demonstrated excellence in the use of SAS to manage and manipulate
large datasets.
For example, this will require writing new code and debugging existing
code at least as
complex as the AHRQ Inpatient Quality and Patient Safety Indicators.
* Demonstrated professional, verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects at the same
time.
Desired Qualifications:
* Desire to learn new programming and statistical skills.
* Experience using Medicare claims data is particularly desirable.
* Experience with a variety of statistical and database programs (SAS/
STAT mandatory; stata, R and/or SQL helpful)
* Familiarity with medical terminology.
* Experience with longitudinal data analyses and medical expenditure
data.
* Experience analyzing data from the Health and Retirement Study (HRS)
