Hi,

At least two options: R and PSPP.

The Hmisc and the Foreign package are relevant for R http://cran.r-project.org/package=Hmisc (POR files) http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/foreign/index.html (SAV files).

PSPP is an open source alternative to spss. Quite limited, but reading files works. http://www.gnu.org/software/pspp/

Can someone please point me to where I can locate the technical details that I need for a non-SPSS application to read SPSS files of various types (.sav, files in particular, but other files also).  The application that will read the files will not itself have access to SPSS.
