Seminar Description: A teaching portfolio is a collection of teaching materials, including a teaching philosophy statement, that is helpful for improving teaching skills as well as for getting academic jobs. Regardless of whether you plan to apply for academic jobs at research institutions, primarily teaching institutions, or any kind of institution in between, having a teaching portfolio as a graduate student or post-doc can make a difference in whether or not you get a request for information or an interview. This seminar will introduce what a teaching portfolio is, what the different parts are, how to construct one, and how they can be tailored for specific needs or institutions. Handouts of the presentation and of relevant examples will be available. More information about the Teaching Portfolio can be found at http://www.ctl.uga.edu/teachingassistant/portfolioprogram

Your Speaker: Paul Quick, Coordinator of Faculty and TA Development, Center for Teaching & Learning In his role as the Coordinator of Faculty and TA Development at the Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of Georgia, Dr. Paul Quick organizes programs for graduate teaching assistants aimed at improving teaching and professional development as well as supports faculty through workshops, Faculty Learning Communities, and individual consultations. In addition to his official duties at CTL, he also teaches American literature in the English Department.
