Hi Bruce,

Differences are others than columella. Other differences in these species are the protoconch and the number of spines+their ontogeny. I suggest you to order "A revision of the indo-West Pacific Fossil and Recent Species of Murex s.s. and haustellum" by Ponder & Vokes, published in the Records of the Australian Museum Supplement 8, 29 April 1988. You can ask to: Des Beechey Malacology Department Australian Museum 6 College St, Sydney NSW 2010, Australia Phone/Fax: 61 (0)2 9320 6166 Email: desb@austmus.gov.au

It is Vokesimurex dolichourus.

Best wishes Roland
