Subject: Funny Brown Creeper Behavior
Today, while birding private property in Bartow County, I observed a BROWN CREEPER at the base of
a pine tree. It was doing its normal thing, when it suddenly fel still onto the ground but leaning
against the tree. Its head was cocked sideways, so I assumed something was wrong. It stayed
motionless for about a minute then revived and began creeping up the tree. It clawed at its head a
few times but seemed to be fine. I wondered if it may have been sunning, anting, or could it have
gotten stung and was briefly paralyzed? There was another creeper on the same tree also. I observed
three today in all.
Other nice birds were:
Redhead - 29
Lesser Scaup - 2
Ruddy Duck -5
Blue-headed Vireo - 6
Black-and-white Warbler - possibly an early arrival date for Mountains
Vesper Sparrow
Rusty Blackbird - 18
