Subject: Surf Scoters at Strom Thurmond/Clarks Hill Lake (Columbia County)

This afternoon (Monday, 28 March 2011) I observed a flock of four Surf
Scoters (2 male, 2 female, I think) at Clarks Hill (Strom Thurmond) Lake,
near the dam. They were originally on the South Carolina side, but then
flew over to the Georgia side of the lake. Also present were several Common
Loons, in breeding plumage, and a small flock of Bufflehead. (I didn't see
any coots, which made the trip even more worthwhile.)
