So the 3.5-inch floppy disk had slightly more capacity than the first
mainframe computer tape (1.44 MB vs. 1.4 MB).

Tomorrow, June 14, 2011, is the 60th anniversary of the dedication of
the first commercial computer purchased (Univac 1, purchased by the U.S.
Census Bureau).
Univac 1 used magnetic tape with a capacity of 1.4 MB
(http://www.computermuseum.li/Testpage/UNIVAC-DigitalTape.htm)
A recent SAS installation depot we downloaded required weighed in at 22
GB (24,055,939,072 bytes). By my calculations, SAS could have been
delivered on a minimum of 16,387 Univac tapes . ;>)
