Subject: Using file DBFWIN31.EXE to execute PROC DBF
Some day I was browsing SAS notes (TS 019), and I found
note V6-ACCESS-8281 saying:
<<Proc DIF and DBF are not included in the the BASE procedures.
It is part of SAS/ACCESS to PC File Formats. This is an addon
product that is at additional cost. Proc DIF and DBF are only
included in TS 407. They were not included in TS 404 or TS 405.
You can download from our BBS the procedures which are in files:
DBFWIN31.EXE /* windows 3.1 6.08 executables */
DBFOS2.EXE /* OS/2 6.08 executables */
DBFNT.EXE/* Windows NT executables */
These are also on our FTP site at FTP.SAS.COM in the
/tech/download/misc directory.>>
I downloaded the file DBFWIN31.EXE and I noticed that PROC DBF
was working fine. Precious!
However, SAS note V6-ACCESS-8160 says:
<<When a user downloads DBFWIN31.EXE, DBFOS2.EXE or
DBFWINNT.EXE from the bulletin board or via FTP they must expand
these files by placing the file in an empty directory and type the name
of the file, i.e. DBFWIN31.EXE. This file is a self extracting PKZIP file
that will expand into 4 files. One of the files is a READ.ME that tells
them what to do with the other 3 files and where to put them.>>
This doesn't work on my PC. I must reboot it if I try under MS-DOS
and the same under Windows because i get a protection error.
What is happening?
Thank you all.
