Subject: Win 95 Install Problems of 6.11 Final Production in Australia

According to SAS Institute Australia it has been decided that release 6.11 at TS020 which has been available in strictly limited quantity worldwide and produced in November 1995 is the production version of SAS 6.11. I have been told that WAVE 2 is not going to be mass produced and distributed as I have been informed of previously. Instead when Wave 2 is ready, it will be shipped on request when it arrives in 2 -3 months from now. Also the "Production" version is not certified for Windows 95.

Question #1: is the information concerning Wave 2 correct ?

I have previously successfully installed the disk labeled TS020 that SAS Australia received in Nov 1995. The New CD that we received this week labeled 6.11 TS020 appears to be slightly different to the copy I used to Install from in January 1996.

Question #2: is the "production" release of 6.11 different from that which was released in November 1995 ?

The Win 95 PC's configuration has not changed since Dec 1995 and the method of Installation of SAS 6.11 in January 96 and Today was the same. One thing I noticed was that the NEW CD auto-started it's install while the Older CD of 6.11 did not.

The problems reported during Installation were ones concerning problems in writing the config.sas file and that some files were unavailable due to the use by other applications. The reading of the SETINIT file would not work and the results on Installing from CD ROM were useless.

My Solution: I copied the Whole SAS directory to my Hard Drive and executed the install from one Hard Disk Partition to another. One minor problem was that the SETINIT process updated the SAS system but seemed to stall the setup process. Also an AF/FRAME application that I am developing now crashed in the VIEWTABLE command on exiting it, This problem has not occurred before.

Question #3: have any SAS-L'rs had any Install problems at this stage ?

The Win 95 Hardware Configuration: 150 MHz Pentium, 32 Mb EDO RAM, 1 GB Quantum HDD, 1.6 GB Western Dig HDD, ALTEC Hex speed ATAPI/IDE CD-ROM Win 95 with 1st Customer Pack Installed. Number Nine GXE 64 Pro Video Card.

Thanks in advance to anyone with some Info. or Ideas

Alex M. Wolf.
