I recall from my days of tracking down cluster methods that the reference given in the SPSS Reference Guide was fairly good at explaining WAVERAGE. That cite is Anderberg, M. J. 1973. Cluster Analysis for Applications. New York: Academic Press. In fact it was a good overall reference for CA. I am suprised that Romesburg did not have anything...
