Subject: The BASS System (was: Expensive SAS on free Linux?)

When SAS/PC was released, it became a "market-killer", even without the need for lawyers, and the Bass System, which ran on PCs, just withered away.

Does anybody know | if it is still available in any form - perhaps shareware? | | The dilemma I am facing is that there is a project being under development | that is going to be used both in the US and in 3rd world countries. Obviously | the poorer countries don't have access to a sophisticated (and expensive) | package like SAS. It would be great if a cheaper method was available | for simple SAS-like tasks and yet could be simply converted for use in SAS | for more complex analysis. | | Date: Thu, 21 May 1992 10:24:54 EDT | From: Ray Pass <PASSRAY@CPMAIL-NZ.CIS.COLUMBIA.EDU> | Subject: BASS | | > Q: what has become of the BASS system - a sort of SAS lite. | > it was originally developed by Jeff Bass. | | In Sept '91, I reported on SAS-L that the BASS Institute had sent out post | cards to customers announcing the demise of the the product. I don't know | what Jeff Bass is doing these days, but he was at SUGI 17, so is obviously | still involved somehow. | | Date: Thu, 21 May 1992 11:33:22 -0400 | From: sce!CONNERBC/G=BEN/I=C/S=CONNER@MHS.ATTMAIL.COM | Subject: BASS | | For those interested, Jeff is alive and well and working for a | pharmaceutical company in Southern California... | | Date: Tue, 26 May 1992 03:45:05 GMT | From: tiny t <tamara@GLIA.BIOSTR.WASHINGTON.EDU> | Subject: Re: BASS | | Jeff is now (happily) marketing manager at AMGEN corp, a biotech | pharmaceutical company.
