Subject: Fwd: How to use SAS/GRAPH and Powerpoint to save 600 DPI graphi
Comments:
Hi,
I hope it is not too late to answer your posting. I do not have the
full answer for you, but please advise me for more info.
I am using SAS 6.12 for OS/2 and win, and 6.11, 6.10 for OS/2. I do
not see the driver called CGMMPPA in the SASHELP.DEVICES catalog. Is this
driver came with your SAS version? I would like to have a copy of that if
that is the case.
Since I do not have the above driver, I have used CGMFL2C driver to
create SAS/GRAPH and imported into POWERPOINT. As you said graph looks fine
and prints fine too. I have saved in .WMF format and imported it by using
HIJAACK PRO. Graph looks fine and prints fine too. But I can not tell
whether it is printing in 600DPI or 300DPI. I do not know how to figure that
out in the export model of the device driver.
Through my year working with SAS/GRAPH, I have found out that if you
create or export SAS/GRAPH in the hardware fonts, you can edit or make it
nice for your paper. Please check my previous posting for SAS hardware font.
I also agree with you 100% about the GRAPH editor. Good luck with
your book.
Thanks

SUBJECT too long. Original SUBJECT is 'How to use SAS/GRAPH and Powerpoint to save 600 DPI graphics??'
---------------------- Original Message Follows ----------------------
Dear SAS-Lers,
there have been many messages about this topic on the list recently, but
to my knowledge there have been no answers to how to produce high
resolution graphics files from SAS/GRAPH through Microsoft Powerpoint.
I mean that, since any author of a paper must allow others to deal with
additional graphics programs (Xpress for example), in this case one must
consider that the latter can't load .ppt files usually.
This might be important for everyone using PowerPoint (or Word) as
an easy graphic editor and then wanting to submit their
color images to journals using DTP programs which usually need
>600 DPI resolution TIFF,GIF,JPG files.
In my case, this is what I did:
a)
1) Use CGMMPPA SAS/GRAPH driver
2) Insert .CGM file into PowerPoint and work with it
3) Print on a 600 DPI Laser Printer ==> Perfect!
4) Save in Windows Metafile Format
5) Open from a DTP application (as PhotoShop, Paint Shop, etc.)
specifying to import at 600 DPI
===> bad, low resolution
b)
1) TIF, GIF SAS/GRAPH drivers
2) Insert into Powerpoint ==> can't convert into Powerpoint objects
==> badly low resolution
3) Open from DTP application ==> bad, low resolution
With CGMMPPA and Powerpoint I can print a beatiful map on my laser, but if
an editor ask me to provide graphic files (in my case I am planning to
publish a book) I am not able to support him efficiently.
Working with Powerpoint is great because you can convert countries of
a map into objects and edit it easily (in SAS is also possible, but
the graphic editor is ridiculous in v. 6.10).
Any suggestions/solutions?
Thanks in Advance.
