Subject:   Can't update license in Windows

Hi all,

I have had at least 3 people this week with the same problem, still unresolved. Our site license for SPSS for Windows expires on Sept. 30th each year. These 3 people did not update their license numbers before the grace period ended at the end of November. They want to now and SPSS for Windows 95 (version 7.0) is not letting them. For 3.x, I have advised people to set the date back on their computer to Sept something, update the license, get out and set the date back. That has worked for Windows 3.x.

But these '95 folks can operate while in SPSS for that session but as soon as they get out and set the date back to the proper date, SPSS won't run again. One man does not have the setup icon either to try this update from, Does anybody have a clue how to let these tardy people update their license with our new license number?

I called SPSS, Inc. and was told that a running virus checker or having MS Office shortcut bar open might be the problem. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Did closing those applications before trying the update work? Was there anything else that needed to be done?
