If you're interested in setting up CICS as a server in a client/server (or intranet/internet) architecture, then the below would be essential reading.

(You may ask why should I want to use CICS as a server in client/server. Reasons: Industrial strength TP Monitor, instant client/server connection to the mission-critical mainframe data, access to the tons of VSAM/DB2/IMS data).

ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO SETTING UP CICS CLIENT/SERVER ================================================

Get your system programmers and comms specialists to read the following (most of these are online manuals):

CICS 'Interproduct Communication' --------------------------------- (ie. how to set up your CICS server to talk to CICS Client): Pay special attention to - Chapter 3. IBM CICS Clients - Chapter 6. Introduction to the CICS intercommunication functions - Distributed program link - Chapter 9. Distributed program link

CICS Family: Communicating from CICS/ESA and CICS/VSE ------------------------------------------------------ Sorry, no online version available yet. Pay attention to the data conversion and the DFHCNV macros.

'CICS Client Unmasked' Redbook --------------------------------------------------- (gives practical example of how setup is done on some of the possible CICS server/ CICS client configurations)

'CICS Client Administration' ----------------------------------------
