I have used (older) versions of DBMS/COPY and DBMS/COPY Plus, and found them to be very useful products. The latter version allows you to create batch files as well as do some transformations on the data structures.

An alternate access method would be to use the ODBC drivers and PROC SQL if you are trying to read external data into SAS; there are several other options, probably, depending on exactly the problem you are trying to solve.
