Bill: Here is a technical note from our support database which addresses this problem and details how you can resolve it. If the problem survives this re-setting of the SPSS registry, please contact us at SPSS Technical Support with further information on your system resources.

____________________________________________________ Q.

When we try to edit a pivot table in

SPSS for Windows 7.5 Output Navigator, we

get the message: "Failed to create object.

Make sure the object is entered in the

system registry." What is happening?

A.

SPSS pivot table objects have not been

correctly entered into the registry.

To fix this problem follow these steps

in this order:

1) Close SPSS. Go to directory where

SPSS is installed and double-click on the

file called "regpurge.bat". This may take

a minute or two to run, after it finishes

you can close the window. (**Please note:

running this file "regpurge.bat" will

re-set all your preferences, like default

Table Looks and Toolbar customizations.)

2) In the SPSS directory, double-click on

the file called "newuser.bat". This should

take a second to run, after it finishes

close the window.

3) In Windows 95, go to the Start button,

then Run the following command:

c:\Progra~1\SPSS\regsvr32.exe spsspvt.ocx

(**Note: You want to substitute the correct path

where you have SPSS installed. In this example

the path it c:\Program~1\SPSS which actually

stands for c:\Program Files\SPSS which is the

default installation directory. If you have

it installed in Program Files you want to type

it as Progra~1 like this example.)

4) In the SPSS directory, double-click on the

file called "rereg75.bat".
