My impression about SPSS 7.5 is that it made a big progress by adding GLM and so forth. But new SPSS manual tend to be a real "cook book" (just show "how to do", and don't have enough statistical explanation) to me. One of attractive thing about old SPSS manual is that it explain statistics in plain English so that my grandma can understand. But the current SPSS manual lost it's attraction by not adding enough statistical explanations.
