Subject: Re: Invalid Header Problem using Novel 4.11

After posting to the SAS newsgroup, I sent a note to the to SAS Tech support concerning the Invalid Header problem.

Below is the reply that I received.

-- Page 2 ------ 04NOV97:09:22 ------ Ruzsa, Peter ---------------------------- Hi Dave Wilkinson,

What you are running into is a bug in the Novell32 client as documented in this usage note below. Your best bet is to get the latest Novell32 client or load up the Microsoft client. The reason you see it in SAS is because we move more i/o and large datasets then most everyone else you see. Novell does have a fix for this for NT systems but we have not heard of a fix for windows 95 yet.

SAS Note: D629

Title: Invalid header and other errors when creating SAS datasets on Novell

Invalid header or invalid password errors may be received when creating SAS datasets on Novell networks. The problem is especially likely to occur when using the Novell32 client. The problem occurs because of problems in the Novell32 client when it attempts to read datasets. To circumvent the problem use the Microsoft Client instead.

Respectfully,

Peter Ruzsa

-----------------------

There is a Novell Intranetware Client for Windows 95 update on the Novell site, support.novell.com. It's found in the "Electronic Software Distribution" area under "Intranetware Client 2.2 for Windows 95". I'm not certain that this will solve the problem but we haven't run into it since we installed the update.

Hope this helps Dave.
