Subject: SAS installation problem in Windows 95

I tried to install the SAS system Windows v. 6.12 on a portable AST
Ascentia M5160 with Windows95 (32 MB RAM). The installation process went
fine until the installation program wants to update the SETINIT file (which
I had on a diskette). The following happens:
The system (Windows 95) reports:
"The program has performed an illegal operation and will be terminated"
(translated from Swedish). Then follows some additional information:
"SAS caused an invalid page error i module KRNL386.EXE at address
001:00006639.
Register: ... (here follows row after row of registers)".
Then the computer hangs completely and the only way to make it start is to
turn the power off and turn it on again. The operating system and other
software works fine after turning the computer on again, but as soon as I
try to run SAS (the program files were actually installed) the same thing
as I described above happens.
Did anyone experience the same problems when trying to install SAS under
Windows 95 on a laptop? Did you find a way to solve it?
I really need to get the SAS system running on that portable machine, so I
can work while travelling. I am grateful for any advice you might have.
Regards,
