Subject: 7.5 Profile graphics: Be careful what you wish for
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
There is an anomaly in the profile graphics routines that can chew up a lot
of time when you have to regenerate output and re-edit what you have
already edited.
I have found that if you generate 2 or 3 profile charts in GLM Repeated
Measures, then edit one of the charts, the others may disappear
unpredictably. For example, in a two way ANOVA, if I call for profile
charts of the A main effect, the B main effect, and the AB interaction, the
titles will all appear in the left panel of the Output Navigator. If I then
double click on any one of the three charts to edit it, I find that there
is no problem in editing. However, when I finish my editing session and
return to the Output Navigator, the other two charts may be missing. The
only way to get them back is to regenerate the output. This means that all
my editing will have to be redone.
After some experimentation, I think I have found a workaround. It seems
that clicking on the last chart title in the left panel, then moving up the
list and clicking on each remaining graphic title, one at a time, cures the
problem. This must be done before you attempt any editing. This has worked
every time I have tried it. (Then, again, beating on tom toms always
restores the sun after an eclipse.) I may be engaging in superstitious
behavior, but so far, it has paid off.
If anyone has any further insight into this problem, I'd like to hear about
it.
