It didn't appear until version 6.07.  The first time documentation shows
up is in the volume SAS/STAT Software: Changes and Enhancements through
Release 6.07.  It is again documented in SAS/STAT Software: Changes and
Enhancements through Release 6.12.  There are several new procedures
documented in these updates to the basic set of SAS/STAT manuals.
 
There really *is* a PROC MDS to be used!!
