The best way would be to persuade the listowner to prevent the spam from being distributed through SAS-L in the first place. That's not entirely straightforward, unfortunately. SAS-L is gatewayed to comp.soft-sys.sas, which would have to be changed to a moderated group, which isn't easy (and maybe not even possible).

Barring changes at the source, what you have to do to block spam depends on your system and newsreader or mail reader. If you have the ability to filter messages, getting rid of all messages which contain "adult site", "sex site", "pamela a", "xx", ".jpg", ".gif", or "!!" in the subject line would eliminate much of the unwanted material.

Eliminating all messages whose subject lines are in ALL CAPS would also help, but that's harder to do with the filters I've used.

There's always the risk that you'll reject something legitimate. If you can, write rejected messages to a file that you read and delete from time to time, rather than deleting them completely.
