He should be paid what the market will bear. If he feels he is underpaid, he should cut loose and find a better paying job. If he doesn't find another job, he'll know that he was being paid fairly, at least. If he finds a better paying job, he'll know that the market could bear more than what he was making at the previous job.

Likewise, if the employer thinks too much is being shelled out for a professional typer of semi-colons, they can terminate the employment agreement and try to find someone cheaper. they may or may not have luck. if they don't, they'll have to up the ante.

funny you should bring this up, as another thread in this group has some biostatistician and SAS programmer jobs posted (CCE consulting). the jobs have been posted for months. the guy obviously hasn't filled his positions because he thinks he is going to find people who are willing to provide those skills at well below market rates. this guy has had those jobs posted for four months now. i admire his patience in waiting for a commission. :-> I do think he will wait for a long time to come yet. :->>

sorry it isn't helpful in pinning down exact numbers. this is a cold and cutthroat world where the fastest and brightest SAS nerds rake in the most dough while the inexperienced ones work for much too little money.
