The thing is, people on the list are coming from a few different places. The newsgroup reading people are free to click on a title or not, with minimal hassle. The 14.4K modem people receiving individual listserve posts have to sit and wait while every post laboriously makes its way to their machine, whether they want to see it or not. And the rest of us, with either T1 connections, digest listserve mode, what have you are somewhere in between. So, the amount of investment in each post varying widely, so varies the amount of annoyance with a particular post in which the individual subscriber may not be interested. Having said all that, please stop with the AF posts, I find them not useful and annoying. :-)
