Subject: z-scores

I have 250 marching bands' scores from 10 different states. All scores are based on 100 points and are similar in format, but when I run an ANOVA to compare the means, they show statistical differences among them. Would it be valid and/or reliable to convert the scores to z-scores for each state to make them comparable with one another?

Thanks -- Mike Hewitt University of Arizona mmhewitt@flash.net
