Subject: Automating Variable lengths when importing/opening Excel files
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Whenever I import or open an Excel file for the first time in SPSS, the default string variable lengths are set to 20 or higher. Is there a way to automatically limit the variable lengths to 8 characters or less? Thanks for any help.
