Matt,
SPSS software requires a math coprocessor on your computer. Not all
486 processors include them (there's something like an "sx" and "dx"
distinction that designates the presence or absence of one, though
I don't recall which is which). It sounds like you don't have one,
since this message would be typical of such conditions. The surest
way to confirm this would be to contact the manufacturer of your
computer with full model information so they can tell you a) whether
it had a math coprocessor when it left the factory and b) whether it
can be easily upgraded to include a one. Other, more hardware-savvy
list contributors may be able to suggest some means of reading full
coprocessor information right off of the computer.
