Today, 2/17/99 at 5:30pm, I saw two adult white phase Ross' Geese in Madison County. I was able to see them from about 100 feet with an 82mm Kowa scope. They were all white except the black primaries. They had pink legs and pink bills that had a grayish area at the base and they lacked the grin patch of Snow Geese. One was slightly larger than the other.

They are located on Ga 98 east of Commerce. After passing into Madison County watch for a road that goes to the left named Jot-Em-Down Rd. There is a sign at this intersection that is easy to see that says Mount Zion Baptist Church. Continue on Ga 98 for .25 mi. On the left side of the road is an open field with a pond. There is a house set pretty far from the road and the sign in front was 7960. The pond is just before the driveway. If you go past the house and turn around so that you are going west on Ga 98 there is a spot that you can pull off the roadway. Be carefull! This is a busy highway. The Ross' are in with about twenty farm geese. I watched them for about a half hour before they all moved on to the pond as it was getting dark.

Best regards,

Earl Horn Lawrenceville, Ga. earl_horn@hp.com
