Martin,
According to Bishop, Fienberg & Holland (1975), Discrete
Multivariate Analysis, the approximate large sample estimate
of the variance of the odds ratio (a) is:
VAR(a) = a x a [ 1/x(11) + 1/x(12) + 1/x(21) + 1/x(22)]
where all the observed counts x(ii) are greater than zero.
