In the menus, it is always looking for "raw" data, from which it will compute a correlation or covariance matrix. You can input a correlation matrix (and ancillary statistics to analyze a covariance matrix) using the MATRIX IN(COR=) option using command syntax. If the data you feed the procedure through the menus or using syntax without using MATRIX IN are a correlation matrix, the procedure will not know it and will proceed to treat them as raw data.
