Subject:   SAS/Access problems under HP UX 11.0 and Oracle 8
Content-Type:   text/plain; charset=us-ascii

We were planning to use Oracle 8 for our data warehouse project but have discovered that SAS/Access doesn't function properly. Ie. the access descriptors and view descriptors fail to be built. SQL passthrough does still work however. The fix SAS institute (US) have told us is to upgrade to SAS V7, but the view from SAS Europe is that it's too risky and not recommended. Therefore we are forced to use Oracle 7 until SAS V8 is released and the problems/bugs have been ironed out. I am wondering if there are any other people out there in SAS-L land that have been similarly affected. Is SAS V7 to be feared as too risky an upgrade ? We are using BASE/SAS,FSP,MDDB Server, and Access to Oracle on the Unix system and will be also be using EIS, AF and Graph on the client NT 4 machines. Please could some comment be made on the problems or successes that have been found using these modules on SAS V7. We have been told that working with databases is completely different in SAS V7 and the access/view descriptors are history. Thanks Richard
