Henry,
You might want to check where SPSS is trying to save the journal file. In
SPSS, go to Edit -> Options . On the General tab, you should see a box that
says Session Journal. Make sure that the journal is being written to a
drive and directory you have write access to. You can change where the
journal is being saved by click on Browse. Each user will probably have to
make this change, and since that information is stored in the registry,
they'll need to have write access to the registry, or the setting will not
persist in the next session.

Subject: Error msg
Recently our ITS department moved the location of the
network version of
SPSS to a different location on the server. Ever since, all
users in the
office receive the following msg:
>Warning # 108
>The command journal file cannot be opened.
>Warning # 1216. Command name: _SET
>A file cannot be opened. Probable causes are an attempt to
open a
>read-only file for output, a directory which is too full,
an invalid file
>specification, the specification of a non-existent disk,
etc.
>The error involves file X:\spss.jnl
I am assuming this is a server side error (i.e., the .jnl
file is no longer
located at x:\ but for some reason our versions are still
looking for
thefile there), but was curious as to whether anyone had any
thoughts as to
the specifics of what is occurring before I get involved
with our network
adminsistrator. Is there something I can do to get rid of
this error
message which appears each time SPSS is executed?
