Thank you all for your help. Among all the suggestions, some is what I had thought about, like using substr() etc., which is not my favor. I also thought about using translate(), but I didn't realize there is a "worddatx." that I can take advantage. Thanks for leading me to it. Mike Rhoads's picture format is quite interesting to me, unfortunately, I am still using 6.12, I tested his code, but didn't work.

SAS (in)format, is it too much or still not enough?
