Anne Marie, yes, I think you're right that it can't be done, for the reason you give, but I don't know about it being an explanation for an answer of 1 .... I've just played around SETting DATA step views, and no matter what size the dataset of which it's a view, I seem to end up being told that NOBS = 2147483647 !!
