Subject: loop for renaming of "missing" data
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
Hi there!
I have a dataset with the following structure:
BIRDTYPE BIOTOP METHOD PLACEID YEAR NUMBER
. acre 2 111 1992 5
. acre 2 111 1993 3
blackbird wood 1 123 1992 5
blackbird acre 1 124 1992 4
blackbird wood 1 123 1993 3
finch acre 2 125 1992 5
finch acre 2 125 1993 3
finch acre 2 125 1994 3
........
The idea is that the "unknown" BIRDTYPE (='.') could have been the observed
type. Therefore: The job is to convert the BIRDTYPE='.' into EVERY type of
nonmissing BIRDTYPE for further summarizing computations. Thus, the "unknown
birdtypes" are multiplied, but this is okay. There are about 200 birdtypes,
8 biotop types, two methods, and years range from 1992-1999. Finally, the
resulting dataset could look like this (BIRDTYPE='.' are
filtered out):
BIRDTYPE BIOTOP METHOD PLACEID YEAR NUMBER
blackbird acre 2 111 1992 5
blackbird acre 2 111 1993 3
blackbird wood 1 123 1992 5
blackbird acre 1 124 1992 4
blackbird wood 1 123 1993 3
finch acre 2 111 1992 5
finch acre 2 111 1993 3
finch acre 2 125 1992 5
finch acre 2 125 1993 3
finch acre 2 125 1994 3
...............
Any ideas how to make SAS do this ?
Thanks in advance, Chris
