Forgive me if this has been answered previously, I looked in my archives and couldn't find it.

How do you tell SPSS not to delete leading zeros on a variable (column vector). More specifically, I have ID numbers for each case, and some begin with 0. I have tried various ways to prevent SPSS from automatically deleting these leading zeros without success. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
