Brief Notes for the Listerv List Owner
Note: the 'nodeid' for the UGA Listserv is- listserv.uga.edu
Even though an email address is an owner of a list, it must be subscribed (or added)
to the list before it will get mail from the list or can post to the list.
To post to the list, mail should be sent to LISTNAME@listserv.uga.edu .
If the list is a "public" list. people may subscribe via their usual
method;
Anyone can subscribe to a public list by sending mail to listserv@listserv.uga.edu
with the one line message-- subscribe LISTNAME Firstname Lastname
The list owner can add and delete subscribers to their list (public or private)
** To add someone to the list, send mail to listserv@listserv.uga.edu
with the text of the mail containing just the following Listserv command:
add listname userid@node full_name
for example-- add LISTNAME jdoe@arches.uga.edu John Doe
** To delete someone from the list, send mail to listserv@listserv.uga.edu
with the following Listserv command:
quiet del listname userid@node
for example: quiet del LISTNAME jdoe@arches.uga.edu
Note: You may have more than one command per piece of mail.
Also, if you usually use a signature block on your e-mail, turn it off
when sending mail to LISTSERV (or listserv tries to interpret it as
listserv commands).
To review the list of subscribers, send mail to listserv@listserv.uga.edu
with the following command:
review LISTNAME
This command will send you a copy of the list of subscribers
so that you can review it. You may then use the ADD and DELete
commands to make any changes to the list of subscribers.
To get a list sorted by name, send command- review LISTNAME by name
For a list sorted by email address, send command- review LISTNAME by (node userid)
For a complete list of the commands send mail to listerv@listserv.uga.edu
with the text of you message;
info refcard
If someone subscribed to the list has their id turned off (as when they
leave an institution), you will get messages from LISTSERV indicating
that mail for this list could not be delivered to that id.
Usually Listserv will notify that it will monitor the id and if it
cannot delever to it for several days in a row, it will automatically
delete the subscriber. You can also use the 'delete' command above
to remove the subscriber at any time.
