Did you try the official geographic names website of the U.S. Board on
Geographic Names for foreign names maintained at NIMA? If not, go to
<http://geonames.usgs.gov>, the official site for domestic names, and then
click on GEONames Server to link to the foreign names site. Click on
Access Geonet, then gazetteer search, then type name and select starts
with, contains, etc. and then select country (there are other selections).
I tried it, but there was no selection with that spelling, variant or
official, but one might find some other form that may be of interest.

I have a patron who is looking for the location of a town in Germany. The

period is 1850's and the name of the town is Neubaier. She claims that the
spelling is accurate. We don't have any resources that go back that far.
