Christa,

Just wanted to touch on one aspect of your question, and that is map
cataloging. At Penn State me and my Map Cataloging Team are members of
the Cataloging Services Department, not the Map Library/Collection. I
think that this is probably true for the majority of research library
map collections, as opposed to the person doing cataloging being with/in
the map collection. However, I know of several situations that this is
not true--and this is when the Map Librarian/Curator/Head also has as
part of his/her assignment the cataloging/classification effort.

Sincerely,

Paige Andrew
